HOW
PRIVATE COMPANIES ARE TAKING OVER PUBLIC TRANSPORT
With the number of Ola autos increasing in the city,
the public transport rickshaw drivers face a great deal of problems. Ola, with
its safer and cheaper convenient has grabbed customers easily. The public auto
drivers complain about how passengers have stopped using public transport and
where they would earn 60 rupees for 4 km, Ola provides service for 4kms in 30
rupees. The rickshaw drivers have to pass the RTO test where approximately 10,000
rupees are spent on. This amplifies the problems faced by the auto drivers.
The lack of rickshaw parking zone as provided for
private buses in the city is an inconvenience where rickshaw drivers have to
pay a fine for 3000 to 4000k rupees. Less income and more expenses is worsening
the situation of auto drivers. Raman, an auto driver for 20 years says that he
has been driving the auto since and used to earn 300-500 rupess per day and
till date earns the same. This just reflects the plight of rickshaw drivers in
the city and the country as well.
